Tracy Mack-Askew of Thomas Built Buses Named Woman in Business by Triad Business Journal

HIGH POINT, N.C.  – April 12, 2016 – Tracy Mack-Askew, Thomas Built Buses’ vice president of engineering, has been named a recipient of the Triad Business Journal’s 17th Annual Women in Business Awards. Mack-Askew was selected based on her leadership in business and in philanthropy. 

As the head of product engineering, Mack-Askew leads the testing and compliance, trim and equipment, research and development and mechatronics organizations of Thomas Built Buses. She oversees and manages the company’s engineering division and leads the team responsible for developing the innovations and technologies that make a Thomas Built school bus one of the leading school buses in North America.

“Tracy has brought so much to Thomas Built Buses in the two years that she has been with our company, and this award is most certainly well deserved” said Caley Edgerly, president and CEO for Thomas Built Buses. “She is an innovator, a mentor to her entire team, and a huge advocate for giving back to our community.  Under her leadership, we debuted our new BusWise™ Technologies, which included a suite of new technologies, and her team currently is working on additional innovations.  Tracy and her team are sure to revolutionize not only our school buses, but the entire school bus industry.”

In addition to her accomplishments at Thomas Built Buses, Mack-Askew is a reading buddy at Oak Hill Elementary School and a mentor through the Queens Foundation, where she works with young women who will be the first in their families to go to college. 

Mack-Askew’s list of achievements includes patents for a number of innovations developed while she was at GM and others are in development at Thomas Built Buses. 

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, and a Master of Arts degree in management from Harvard University. She lives in the High Point area with her husband and three children.
